Michael Wiley Barker was loved and respected by all who knew him. This is no surprise as these same attributes guided him in life. Born on July 24, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Elbert Wiley and Sarah Audrey Storey Barker, he was the oldest of seven children. Michael was known for his deep faith, love of learning, incredible work ethic, and playful nature.

Upon graduating from Southwest High School, he began his studies at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Sintzel, whom he married three years later in the Salt Lake Temple on December 14, 1967.

After returning to Missouri, Michael graduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City and entered the U.S. Army where he served for six years. He later formed Barsto Construction with his close friend, James Stotts.

Michael was a remarkable leader, serving with faith and humility. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served the Lord without question or hesitation. As a young man, he was called to be a missionary in the Northern California Mission. As he grew in testimony and wisdom, he held many other leadership positions including High Councilor, Stake Executive Secretary, Counselor to the Stake President, Stake President of the Liberty Missouri Stake, Temple President of the St. Louis Temple, and most recently Patriarch. In each position, he walked in meekness and loved those he worked with and served.

Michael is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children Jason, Jessica, Justin (Jonna), Jeremy, Jamie, Jill (Jared), and Jacqueline (Sean), 24 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, brothers David (Lori), John, James (Joy) and sisters Elizabeth (J.D.) and Deborah (Steve). He is preceded in death by his son, Jared, grandsons Calvin and Jared Michael, his parents, and sister Rebecca.

To our beloved husband, father, Poppy, and friend, we will carry on your everlasting legacy of love, faith, humility, and devotion as we live our lives in service to the Lord and others.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6301 S. 2300 E., Holladay, UT. Viewings will be held on Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m., at the same location. Interment will be in the Murray City Cemetery.
