A local professor is named the recipient of the Alexander W. Doniphan Community Service Award recipient for 2025.

The community is invited to attend the award ceremony and reception on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 7 pm, in the Gano Assembly Room 222 in the Yates Gill Union at William Jewell College, 500 College Hill Liberty, MO. Please visit AlexanderDoniphan.org/RSVP for more info and to RSVP.
 
This year the Alexander W. Doniphan Foundation, which has been award local community leaders for their service and leadership since 2002, has broaden its scope to include granting two local high school seniors with college scholarships. The foundation will award one Liberty Public School student and one selected by local charity Operation Breakthrough. The winners will be notified prior to the event and be recognized during the preceedings.
 
About Dr. Gary Armstrong
Dr. Gary Armstrong is Professor of Political Science at William Jewell College. He has served at Jewell as Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs, Associate Dean for the Core Curriculum, Political Science Department Chair, director of Jewell’s new cyber security major, advisor at the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and several other positions.

The Alexander W. Doniphan Community Service & Leadership Award recognizes the honoree as one who exemplifies General Doniphan’s outstanding characteristics and personal commitments in one or more of the diverse components of his life, mainly Education, Jurisprudence, Statesmanship, Patriotism in Defense of Country, and Integrity in Business.
 
The Alexander W. Doniphan Community Service & Leadership Award is made possible through the efforts of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the greater Kansas City area, the Clay County Millennium Historical Board and the Clay County Commission.
