Lori Garcia, Stake Communications Director (Hodge Park Ward)

The community came together on Friday, February 7, 2025 to give the gift of blood. Members of the Liberty Missouri Stake and friends came to donate blood with the Red Cross at the Clayview building.
All-in-all 28 people gave blood, of which 25 units were collected. Ten of the donors were giving blood for the first time, including Terri Tervort (Rush Creek Ward). Terri said she was a bit apprehensive to give blood but decided to do it anyway.
“Well, it was easier than I thought,” Tervort said, chuckling. “I was a little bit anxious, but I would absolutely do it again.”
When Kristine Jones’ son needed a blood transfusion in 2022 it changed her perception of giving blood.
“If you know someone who’s ever needed blood it becomes a lot less scary,” Kristine Jones, (Doniphan Ward) said.
Three years ago when Jones’ son Joshua was 12-years-old he needed five units of blood in a medical emergency.
“I was very grateful someone had donated…five somebodies, actually,” Jones said. “If someone you know and love needed blood, you would do it.”
Tervort agrees.
“When my brother got leukemia he needed a transfusion and that made it more real to me,” Tervort said.
Donors were treated to Valentine-themed cards they could fill out and give to a sweetheart and could take pictures in front of a photo wall, designed by Natalie Christensen (North Brook Park Ward)
Organizers Mike and Mellanie Burris said they were grateful the community pulled together to make the blood drive successful.
“We look forward to continuing this incredible act of service,” Mellanie Burris said. “If you were unable to donate this time, please know we are grateful for your effort. Also, there will be an opportunity later in the year, so stay tuned. Thank you again and may the Lord bless you all for your kindness!”
